The group of Riverview Prep School seniors set off last Monday and it was a weary, winding drive. Spirits picked up as the bus neared Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre near Hoedspruit.
Most learners had not visited Moholoholo since their grade two or three year.
They interacted with a bataleur and fed a number of hungry vultures.
They headed back to the Blyde River Adventure Camp, where the children got settled before heading off to the river.
They had to search for a spot along the river that hippos had not already occupied.
For the first night, they set up camp under the stars in the middle of the bush and snuggled into sleeping bags.
The week was packed with relay races, critical-thinking exercises, rapid-rafting, paintball, muddy obstacle courses and a potjiekos competition.

Everyone had to face a fear at one time or another, and the teachers were proud of how the children conducted themselves and worked together despite the range of grades and ages.

New alliances were made and everyone developed a new sense of respect for what each person is capable of.
