Armed robbers hold up cellphone shop at Riverside Mall

Suspects posing as delivery men robbed a cellphone shop in Riverside Mall in broad daylight on Saturday morning.

MBOMBELA –  According to police spokesman Lt Col Erhard Stroh, five men arrived and parked their Kia delivery van outside the mall at entrance one.

“They entered the mall pushing trolleys with empty boxes and entered the Hisense Cellphone Shop across from the Wimpy. The men showed three staff members and a customer their weapons and ordered them to move to the back room.”

When the staff and customer were locked in the back, the robbers proceeded to load over 300 cellphones into the boxes. “They casually walked out the shop and loaded the van and drove off.”
Stroh said police had opened a case of business robbery.

Bossies Community Justice’s Albert Gryvenstein said they also had been at the scene and had assisted the police. Hi-Tech Security Lowveld operations manager Callum Mac Pherson said they had also responded to the scene and had also conducted a search for the suspects.

Riverside Mall’s marketing manager Beate Dreyer confirmed that a robbery took place at a store at approximately 09:30 . “ The perpetrators made off with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise. No tenants or customers were harmed during the incident.”
