One fatality and several injuries due to road accidents over the weekend

A collision at Mjejane on Friday morning claimed the life of one person, while three people sustained minor injuries during three other accidents.

MALALANE – Over the weekend, emergency services had to respond to several accidents in the area.

On Friday morning, one person died and another was lightly injured when a bakkie collided with the back of a truck. The incident occurred around 09:00 at Mjejane, just past Hectorspruit towards Komatipoort.

That afternoon, a truck carrying sugar cane overturned on the Jeppe’s Reef road. No injuries were reported.

The next afternoon, one person miraculously escaped with only light injuries after a collision with an oncoming vehicle on the N4 near Riverview Prep School outside Malelane.

According to Frits Koekemoer of Swift EMS, the injured driver reportedly got a fright from a truck that hooted and served into oncoming traffic.

On Saturday, one person escaped with only light injuries after swerving into oncoming traffic and colliding with a vehicle just outside Malalane.

Another accident took place around the same location on Monday around 10:00. Two vehicles were travelling towards the Nkomazi Toll Plaza.

Koekemoer explained that one vehicle reportedly turned in to Riverview Prep School, when the vehicle behind it tried to overtake. They collided and two people sustained minor injuries.

Motorists are urged to take extra care when travelling on the N4 through Nkomazi and to follow a safe following distance. Reckless overtaking should be avoided at all costs as this has resulted in  numerous  accidents and several fatalities.
