Police find unlicensed firearm and live ammunition during stop-and-search

A man was arrested in KaMhlushwa on Thursday and later released on bail after police found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and several rounds of shotgun ammunition.

KAMHLUSHWA – Local police’s attempts to be more visible in the community yielded positive results on Thursday night when they found a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm and shotgun ammunition.

According to Const Zithulele Mhlongo of KaMhlushwa SAPS, his colleagues were conducting a stop-and-search operation at the KaMdladla/Vlakbult road about 23:00, when they spotted Jeremiah Zitha (24) parking a vehicle nearby.

They asked to search him and found shotgun ammunition and then the firearm, which they determined he did not have a license for.
