Five killed in Phiva bus and taxi crash

Four learners and a taxi driver died and 25 people were injured in a collision between a bus and taxi between Mdladla and Phiva this morning.

KAMHLUSHWA – A minibus taxi collided head-on with a bus on the D2940 road between Mdladla and Phiva around 07:00 this morning.

Four people died at the scene and the taxi driver passed away at the hospital. Around 8 are critically injured and 17 seriously injured. They were rushed to Tonga Hospital.

A case of culpable homicide was opened at Kamhlushwa SAPS.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison has dispatched its Safety Engineering Team to the scene to investigate.

Motorists had to use alternative roads as the scene took more than two hours to clear.
