Two pedestrians killed near Hectorspruit

Two pedestrians were among three people killed in road accidents in the area around 19:00 tonight.

HECTORSPRUIT – Two women crossing the N4 near Hectorspruit died when a vehicle crashed into them around 19:00 tonight.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison warned motorists to take care when travelling the area as emergency services were still working at the scene around 20:00.

Emergency services were called to attend to two other accidents in the area around the same time.

According to Frits Koekemoer of Swift EMS, a tipper truck and a bakkie collided on the R38 (Barberton road). One person was killed, another seriously injured and the third sustained light injuries.

Swift EMS also responded to an accident involving two vehicles on the Mananga road. One of the drivers was injured and transported to hospital.

Motorists are urged to take extra care due to the wet weather conditions, observe a safe following distance, ensure they decrease their speed when visibility is low and to never overtake recklessly.
