Child killed in an accident in Mbombela

A 3 year-old child was killed in an accident in the early hours of this morning near West End Shopping Centre on the R40.

MBOMBELA –  According to department of Safety, Security and Liaison spokesman Joseph Mabuza, the accident occurred at around 02:30.

An eye-witness at the scene said an  *Amarok bakkie was travelling towards Barberton when an old Honda Ballade  allegedly made a U-Turn in the road. “The bakkie collided into the Honda. The Honda Ballade basically split in half with the impact.”

The eye-witness stated that there had been a man and a woman and a child in the Honda Ballade. “The child had died on the scene and the rest had been taken to hospital.

Mabuza said the Ballade had a Mozambican registration number plate. “We believe the parents are in hospital and are from Mozambique.”
