Rise in diesel and petrol thefts off farms
A rise in diesel and petrol thefts off farms just outside the city has been reported.

J&M’s Hendrik Botha said they have seen this occurring on farms situated in Alkmaar and Schagen.
“Two weeks ago 1 297 litres of diesel were stolen off a farm in the Schagen area. Another farm was hit on Sunday night in Alkmaar where 3 000 litres were stolen.”
Botha said farmers should start becoming extremely vigilant regarding theft of fuel
on their property due to the increasing rise in prices.

At the beginning of October, the price of 93 octane petrol increased by 99 cents per litre while the cost of 95 octane petrol increased by R1 per litre. Both grades of diesel (0,05 per cent and 0,005 per cent) saw a massive price increase of R1,24 per litre.”
They must protect their properties by putting up alarm systems and cameras. They need early warning systems. This problem is going to get worse.”
Botha said the cases had been reported to SAPS for further investigation.
Provincial spokesman Brig Leonard Hlathi said the police had not noticed a rise of these type of crimes as yet. “We normally have a constant flow of these cases. As far as I know at the moment, we have not identified an increase, but it is possible due to the increase in prices of fuel and diesel.”
