Five people died in two separate incidents involving trucks in the Lowveld and surrounds this past weekend.

In the first incident late on Friday, four people were killed on the N4 between Mbombela and Ngodwana when a truck and a sedan collided. According to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the truck was heading west and the sedan in the opposite direction when it was sideswiped.

The occupants, who were all females, were declared dead on the scene.

In a separate incident which occurred around 11:00 on Saturday, a man died in a head-on collision with a truck on the R540 just outside Dullstroom.

According to Netcare 911, which responded to the scene, the male driver of a hatchback had already passed away upon their arrival.

Going into the festive season, the MEC for the department urged motorists to use the road cautiously. She appealed to all drivers to prioritise their lives and that of others during this time of the year.
