Initiative aims to give eMgwenya a clean sweep

The Nkangala men's sector launched the eMgwenya clean-up initiative in the area on Tuesday.

iThemba Community Centre’s Tamlyn Pretorius said the clean-up was arranged by the sector’s chairperson, Cassim Fakunde, in partnership with eMakhazeni municipalities, Waterval Boven and Belfast.

According to her, there was a fairly good turnout for Tuesday’s event and that large amounts of litter and rubbish had been removed from targeted areas.

“Through the clean-up we are trying to get the local municipality to come out into the community and visit all the problem areas and identify ways of better maintaining these lands,” said Pretorius.

“We had representatives from eMakhazeni present to help. Hopefully, we can have more clean-ups in the future and get the local community involved,” she said.
