One man drowns and another killed by crocodile on same day

Two men lost their lives last Thursday; one was fatally injured by a crocodile in a river while the other man drowned in a dam.

The Mpumalanga Diving Unit’s Capt Pottie Potgieter stated that a 21-year-old Egyptian national drowned in a dam near Croc Valley Farms when he went fishing.

The man waded through the water and slipped into a deep dip and could not swim. His fishing partner could not save him because he also could not swim.

The second death involved a 19-year-old man who died when a crocodile dragged him into the water of the Lomati River at Tomahawk Farms in KaMhlushwa.

According to Potgieter, the man was on a rock five metres into the river and another was on the riverbank when they took a bath.

The 19-year-old was retrieved by the police divers.

The crocodile chased the one man from  the riverbank before turning around to the man on the rock. The victim could not escape the crocodile.
