Free calming medication available for Mbombela dogs and cats for New Year’s Eve

Dogs and cats get hysterical when loud explosions echo through Mbombela as people celebrate the beginning of a new year.

The administrator of Lost and Found Pets Lowveld, Liezl de Jongh, went through the effort to ask companies to sponsor calming medication that can be given to families to calm down their pets during the celebration period

The project is an initiative driven by De Jongh through the festive season. Vets@66 worked with her to help families who want the best for their dogs and cats. The calming medication can be collected at Vets@66.

According to Dr Jo-Anne Gibb, the owner, the calming medication, Calmeze, is a natural calming tablet that can be given to your dog or cat and will be effective for six to eight hours.

“During New Year’s Eve, a lot of loud explosive noises, like firecrackers and fireworks, are set off, leaving dogs and cats scared of the unknown and causing them to panic and end up hurting themselves as they flee,” said Dr Gibb.

Dr Gibb mentioned that she is aware of the large population that cannot provide the necessities their pets need during a time like this and advised people to come and get the medication “to chill the dogs out.”

If the dogs cannot get the medication, Dr Gibb motivated pet owners to keep them indoors and leave the fan and television on close to midnight so that known noises can dilute the celebration noises.
