Burgersfort bodybuilder pleads for financial assistance to compete overseas
The disabled bodybuilder pleaded with Good Samaritans to assist with finances to make his dream a reality
A Burgersfort bodybuilder wishes to achieve his dream of competing in this sport overseas.
Ockert Venter (24) has qualified to represent South Africa at the United Intercontinental Bodybuilding Fitness Federation (UIBFF) World Championships on November 22 and 23 in Bengaluru, India.
Venter who was born with a rare disease, mitochondrial dysfunction, told this publication he wants to reach the top, despite his medical condition.
“I was clinically diagnosed blind at the age of 12 and since then I was told I would not accomplish much in life. This is my opportunity to show not just myself but the people around me and those with disabilities, that anything is possible with faith, a strong will and dedication,” said the fitness enthusiast.

Venter said to compete at the event in Asia, he needs the support from some Good Samaritans and donors.
“I need funding assistance from anyone who can donate towards my preparations and for the accommodation, flights, stage fee and food. This will be for both me and the person who will be assisting me that week.”

In qualifying for the Indian competition, Venter thanked his coach and mentor, Clinton Crous, for preparing him to be one of the best bodybuilders in South Africa.
Describing Venter’s dedication and love of bodybuilding, Crous said he always worked hard work at the gym. “He doubles the effort in what he does, I am so proud of him and I wish his dream
to become a reality. He will surely make the country proud.”
The bodybuilder pleaded with local businesses, mines in the Eastern Limb, the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality and Good Samaritans to assist him with donations.
“The trip will only be possible with generous donations I will receive from you, I am hopeful you will join me in funding for this project. ”
Another reason for Venter being eager to compete in India is to spread awareness to the world about mitochondrial dysfunction.
“I want people to see that its possible to succeed even with challenging medical conditions.”
In 2012, Venter had an opportunity to compete overseas, but due to family challenges he failed to honour that trip.
