UPDATE | Goods worth more than R10m seized from a warehouse in White River

The two suspects will appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court today, November 27.

Two Ethiopian men, aged 27 and 47, were arrested on Monday, November 25, after being found in possession of two Fortuners loaded with various counterfeit products.

The investigation also led the officials to a storage facility where counterfeit goods worth R10m were found and seized.

The two men are expected to appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court today, November 27.

According to the Mpumalanga Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, the crime intelligence members received information about suspicious activities happening in the White River Industrial area, and followed up on it.

During the search, the two men were found in possession of the counterfeit goods.

The suspects could not provide a clear explanation as to why they had the items. The team conducted a thorough search, found a large amount of money inside the two vehicles and seized it.

During the investigation, the officers found a panel van branded like an ambulance full of counterfeit goods.

“Some information led the team to a storage facility that was locked. Inside the team found a panel van branded like an ambulance, full of counterfeit goods. Upon the search of the bogus ambulance, more cash was found and seized. The two men were arrested, charged and detained.

“More than R10m in counterfeit goods, inclusive of different types of takkies/shoes, illicit cigarettes, body cream, hair pieces and other items were seized,” said Sekgotodi.

She added that the vehicles and seized property were taken into safe storage.
