Open manhole sparks safety outcry in White River
The open manhole has been reported to the City of Mbombela and the residents are waiting for the response.
An open manhole on the pavement along Chief Mgiyeni Khumalo Drive, near the intersection of Danie Joubert Street, has become a hazard for residents, resulting at least one serious injury.
The dangerous opening, reportedly due to unknown individuals removing the cover, has raised urgent calls for immediate action from the City of Mbombela (CoM).
A woman who was jogging with her husband on the evening of Sunday, July 20, sustained a severe knee injury after falling into the open manhole. She underwent a surgical procedure to her knee, highlighting the critical threat posed by the neglected infrastructure.

Residents in the area have expressed their alarm over the situation, and are concerned that more serious accidents could occur if the manhole is not covered.
