Golf club invites players to annual festival

The annual Umvubu Festival of Golf, hosted by the Sabi River Sun Golf Club, will see golfers from across the province compete on club’s pristine greens tomorrow (May 22) and Saturday (May 23).

The annual event is also a fundraising initiative by the club, with the majority of funds going towards a worthy cause and a small percentage used for club costs. Captain Neil Waitt handed over four Canon projectors worth R20 000 to Numbi Primary School, last year’s beneficiary, on Monday evening.

The festival is one of Hazyview’s most popular golf events and a total of 60 players participated last year.

This year’s format will be four-ball alliances with variants. Costs will be R900 for two days, or R6 000 a four ball, including a hole sponsorship, green fees and halfway house meals. Players can look forward to lasagne on Friday evening and potjiekos on Saturday night.

The prize-giving ceremony is sure to be a very grand affair with prizes valued over R50 000 to be handed out.

The golf club also recently changed their name from Sabi River Bungalows, which referred to the small neighbouring village, to Sabi River Sun Golf Club to reflect the name of the resort they are based in.
