Riverview Prep pupils’ mettle put to the test in fitness event
Perseverance and stamina were two of the qualities pupils had to rely on during Riverview Prep's annual biathlon and triathlon last Thursday.
Riverview Prep’s fun annual sports competition helped test pupils’ fitness and school spirit, and despite the scorching temperatures, children from grade one to seven competed.
The pool was utilised for the swimming, while cycling and running took place in the sugar-cane fields around the school.
The biathlon consisted of a two-kilometre run and 10 lengths in the pool for the junior primary pupils, while the seniors had to run three kilometres and swim 20 lengths.
The triathlon included a five-kilometre event.
This was the third-last sports event of the term.
School closed on Friday for a two-week break.
The interhouse hockey between the Rollers and Hornbills took place on Tuesday afternoon. Boys’ and girls’ teams from each age group competed, with older players shouting advice and encouragement from the sidelines. Players and supporters cheered loudly every time a goal was scored.
The houses competed on the cricket field on Thursday afternoon, with the Hornbills emerging victorious in both the junior and senior matches.
