With sporting action currently on hold due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 coronavirus, Lowvelder Express is taking a closer look at one of Nsikazi’s hottest soccer teams, TS Sporting FC.

Campaigning in the National First Division, also known as the GladAfrica Championship, TS Sporting took the soccer fraternity by storm when they gained promotion to the Second Division in 2018 by reaching the championship final, only to lose 5-4 on penalties against Maccabi FC.

Abantu Bemthetho, as they are fondly known, are owned by hotshot lawyer, Slungu Thobela, who recently promised the team’s supporters a Premiership status.

“I want to thank our supporters for rallying behind the team, whether we win or lose. You are true fans. We all know that there is no team from Mpumalanga in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but I want to assure you that we will try by all means possible to gain promotion to this elite league.

“As long as some of us are still breathing, this team will play in the PSL.

“It will be for the first time in our areas of KaNyamazane, KaBokweni, Pienaar, Hlau Hlau, Newskom and surroundings to have a team representing and making us proud in the PSL,” said Thobela.

The province does not have representation in the PSL after Mpumalanga Black Aces’ owners sold their status to Cape Town-based business magnet, John Comitis.

He relocated the team to the Mother City and they are now called Cape Town City FC.
Before the country was placed on lockdown, TS Sporting were on position
13 on the table with 24 points.

They were only seven games away to finishing the current season.
They are still to play Cape Umoya, Real Kings, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Steenberg United, JDR Stars and Swallows.

The team spokesperson, Vusi Ntimane, told this publication on Tuesday that the players continue to keep fit by doing visual training.
