The National Consumer Commission has instituted a recall of the MG3 over a safety defect related to its seats
Troubled seat
In a statement, the commission said MG parent company, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor), had informed it that “inertia forces during a collision may cause the driver’s seat cushion frame to contact the seat adjustment unlocking mechanism.
“This could result in minor movement of the seat along its rail, increasing the risk of injury”.

It stated that the recall involves 209 units sold locally from 30 August last year.
“Owners of affected vehicles are advised to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised MG dealership for a service measure,” the commission said.
“All inspection and corrective work relating to this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer”.
Range
A surprising public showing at the Simola Hillclimb last year, the MG3 line-up consists of four models, three powered by a normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine pumping-out 81kW/142Nm, and one by a 1.5-litre hybrid punching out a combined 155kW/425Nm.
Pricing starts at R269 900 for the base 1.5 Comfort manual and ends at R469 500 for the flagship Hybrid+ Luxury.
