28-year-old suspect arrested in connection with Precious Ramabulana’s murder

Police also recovered cellular phones which possibly belonged to the victim, blood-stained clothes, and possibly even the murder weapon.

A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Limpopo student Precious Ramabulana.

Limpopo MEC for transport and community safety Namane Dickson Masemola said the suspect was residing in Nyakelang Village, Botlokwa, and was arrested at his parents’ home.

“Police also recovered cellular phones which possibly belonged to Precious, blood-stained clothes and possibly even the murder weapon,” Masemola said.

He added that there was confidence that the police arrested the “right suspect”, adding “that he has a case to answer to”.

“At this juncture, we call upon our courts to impose the harshest sentence possible on this suspect once found guilty, as all efforts will be committed by the police to prove the case to the letter.”

The college student was brutally murdered on Sunday morning at about 2.30am.

According to preliminary investigations, Ramabulana was asleep in her room at Ga-Joel Section in Mokomene, when she was so callously attacked and found with her body having been stabbed multiple times, Masemola said.

“The police at Botlokwa in the Mankweng cluster policing area are investigating a case of murder as a result.

“The national police commissioner [General Khehla Sitole] had since instructed the provincial police that the 72-hour activation plan be mobilised. This plan entailed the mobilisation of critical resources including crime intelligence, forensic services, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations and detective services.”

Masemola expressed his sadness at Ramabulana’s murder by “the hands of a ruthless criminal”.

“Sadly, this is compounded by the fact that Precious was murdered during a time when the men around the country are challenged to mobilise against gender-based violence, the abuse of children and people with disabilities.”
