A woman who was believed to be heavily pregnant when she was kidnapped has handed herself over to police on Wednesday night.
It has now emerged that Mbalenhle Londiwe Mvungande, a 22-year-old Grade R teacher from Vosloorus on the East Rand, may have faked her own kidnapping in an attempt to cover up the fact that she was not pregnant, reports IOL.

The baby’s ‘father-to-be’, 25-year-old Nkokozo Ntshangase, received threatening Whatsapp messages this week, depicting a gagged Mvungande with the message: “Is this your baby, mama?”

Further texts assured the father that Mvungande was safe, and that her kidnappers were only after her unborn child.
The Star reported that when Mvungande arrived at the police station, she alleged she was no longer pregnant, citing she was given something to drink and lost consciousness.
However, sources close to the family claim that after tracking Mvungande’s cellphone to a location in the North West, she was not kidnapped, but was with another man.
Another family source claimed that she and Ntshangase were no longer together, but that he continued to send her money for doctor’s appointments for their unborn child.
Police have not yet confirmed whether Mvungande’s pregnancy was a hoax. Investigations are continuing.
