Mpofu mocks Malema and Benni, the ‘people of six mabone!’

It's hard to be a Pirates fan these days.

In politics there’s time to relax and worry about the lighter side of life it seems.

And for EFF politicians, like many others, soccer is what they use to unwind. They may be united in politics, but not in the teams they favour. Recently, Orlando Pirates have been in the spotlight for losing six-nil in the PSL Mamelodi Sundowns, after which their fans went berserk and invaded the pitch.

EFF leader Julius Malema may be dealing with getting beat up in parliament by the white shirts and facing a charge of incitement for encouraging people to occupy vacant land, but all of that pales into comparison with the pain of being a Bucs fan.

National chairperson of the EFF Dali Mpofu took to Twitter to make fun of his commander in chief, who posted a picture with former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates great Benni McCarthy with the words: “The future of our team.”

It’s unclear if he was jokingly hoping Benni would make a comeback as a player, or take over as the couch, whose appointment will be announced on Monday.

Interestingly, both men are looking more slim than we’ve seen in a long time.

The Buccaneers have faced a backlash from supporters for their Sundowns ignominy and lost again yesterday, 2-1 to Bidvest Wits.

Orlando Pirates chairperson Dr Irvin Khoza called a press briefing at which he expressed disappointment at the fans for the violence that took place at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

It was not for the time the Ezimnyama Ngenkani have been netted six times in a single match. They lost 6-1 to Supersport United in November last year, and are now referred to by some as “The Six” specialists.
