Here are big sporting events to look out for in January 2016:

1. Varsity Cricket at Senwes Park 

Cricket will be on everyone’s lips in January as the first Varsity Sports tournament of the year will be taking place in Potchefstroom from 25-30 January 2016. Varsity Cricket’s second season will once again be held at Senwes Park just like last year, where the first iteration was a huge success. Eight universities will go head to head for the Varsity Cricket title and will be gunning to knock the University of Pretoria from their throne. This will not be an easy task, however, as UP-Tuks are the current Red Bull World Campus Cricket champions. NMMU, NWU, Tuks, UCT, UFS, UJ, Maties, UWC will be the representing universities this year.

2. Absa Premiership action – Cosmos welcomes the mighty Buccaneers.  

Jomo Cosmos will play their first home game of the season against Ajax Cape Town at 15:30 on Sunday, 17 January. They will follow that up with a match against Orlando Pirates at 18:00 on Saturday, 23 January. Both matches will be played at Olën Park in Potchefstroom.

3.Skoleatletiek beloof vuurwarm aksie.

Die skoleatletiekseisoen is weer in rep en roer in Januarie wanneer die skole weer heropen. Die atlete het alreeds in die voorseisoen hard geoefen en sal definitief gereed wees om 2016 ‘n voortreflike jaar te maak. Hierdie atletiekskouspel kan beslis nie gemis word nie en begin gewoonlik met elke skool se interhuis.
