The 2022 The Fittest Functional SA Championships that took place in Potchefstroom from 6-8 August was a massive hit amongst all the competitors who were tested to the extreme to crown the fittest of them all.
This competition took place at the Kleinplaas Sport Village (Crossfit Ground Zero) as well as Crossfit Black Ops where a total of 9 challenges awaited participants in various age groups.

This ranged from weightlifting, cycling, rowing and even archery to name a few of the disciplines involved in these 9 exercises.

Competitors were tested to the fullest and showed their mettle when it mattered most with some superb performances on the biggest stage.
The beauty of this competition is that any box/facility affiliated with The Fittest in all nine SA provinces could enter the tournament. Boxes held an in house competition to determine their fittest athletes in various categories. Athletes then competed in a provincial qualifier in order to compete at the nationals this past weekend.

Athletes could also enter thanks to the special wild card entry. Wild allows athletes that do not train at a Fittest licensed facility to enter and compete.
According to the founder and organiser of The Fittest, Ryno Verster, this third edition of the event was by far the best ever with amazing feedback from all involved.
“We have received positive feedback from numerous athletes. This is only the beginning. Next year we want to expand to include athletes from across Africa in order to crown an African champion,” added Verster.
According to him, passion and a family atmosphere between athletes is what makes this competition unique.
“This competition is the most complete test of fitness that there is. It was a real challenge for every competitor.”
In the future Verster would like to further expand the reach of the competition to the rest of the world, with a vision for an intercontinental and World Cup events.
“For this to happened we would need a title sponsor for the event. At this stage we host this event from my own personal funds as well as entry fees. We also had a live stream throughout the event that Audio Visual Online set up that truly enhances the exposure,” added Verster.
