Sucha good double to jet in on at Turffontein

Sucha Charmer looks to be crying out for this distance.

There is a well-supported 10-race card at Turffontein tonight with some interesting races for bettors as long at the rain holds off.

The racing is competitive but punters should be able to build up a kitty early in the evening on races 3 and 4 where there look to be some decent bets. Muzi Yeni is always a jockey worth following when he gets on a mount with a squeak of a chance and that looks to be the case in Race 3 where he rides Sucha Charmer for trainer Lucky Houdalakis.  This three-year-old gelding appears to be looking for further and this event over 2400m looks right up his street.

The son of Visionaire has only raced four times and has improved with each outing. His last start was over 2000m on the Vaal Classic track where he raced up with the pace the whole way only to go down 1.75 lengths to Mister Lister. Whether the bump he received at the 1400m mark had a massive effect on the outcome of the race we will never know but Sucha Charmer can only continue to improve and could turn out to be quite a decent stayer.

Discoverer finished only a neck behind Sucha Charmer but has raced 26 times already and the four-year-old still remains a maiden.

Mike and Adam Azzie saddle Just A Jet in Race 4 and this lightly raced five-year-old mare has been highly regarded by the stable. It took a race or two for her to learn what racing is all about but there can be no arguments about the manner of her last two wins. Some people, myself included, did not really take note of her penultimate start because it was in a work riders’ and the opposition did not look particularly strong.

However, her last win, over 2400m on the Classic track at the Vaal, was superb. After her usual slow start, jockey Karl Zechner held her off the pace but when he let her go passing the 400m mark she accelerated away from the opposition to beat Bandola by 1.75 lengths.

She only received a 2kg penalty for that win but although she meets stronger in this Middle Stakes over 2400m, she comes in with just 54kg on her back and should still have too much staying power for her rivals.

Zechner is back in the irons.
