McCarthy slams Eymael for Mthembu comments

Cape Town City FC coach Benni McCarthy believes he has the last laugh when it comes to striker Siphelele ‘Shaka Zulu’ Mthembu.

Former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael once said Mthembu’s biggest mistake was to leave Ea Lla Koto for City, and that he was the best coach the striker has ever worked under.

Mthembu scored his seventh goal of the season when City handed Stars a 5-0 drubbing at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

After the game, McCarthy said he wished Eymael was on the bench when his side beat Stars.

“Luc Eymael said Shaka’s biggest mistake was to leave Free State because he’s the best coach Shaka will ever have. Here is Shaka’s best coach (McCarthy) ever. I don’t want to take the credit but I’m the first coach to make him score seven goals, more than he has ever had. I can smoke a cigar now,” said McCarthy.

Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goal scorer added that he was happy with Mthembu’s progress at the club but he would like the striker to be more aggressive.
