Mayo signs new City contract to end Chiefs, Sundowns speculation

Mayo was linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.


Cape Town City have ended speculation regarding the future of striker Khanyisa Mayo, with the forward signing a new deal which will see him stay at the club until 2028.

The news about Mayo’s long-term contract with City comes days after Mayo was linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 24-year-old had a good season with City, scoring 13 goals in 35 appearances for the club, while making two assists.

Twelve of Mayo’s goals came in the DStv Premiership and he finished the campaign as a joint top goal-scorer n the league with Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile.

“Cape Town City is delighted to confirm that Khanyisa Mayo has signed a new long-term contract with the Citizens,” the club wrote on their official Twitter account.

Mayo’s goals at Cape Town City helped the club finish the season in the top half of the league standings and subsequently qualify for next season’s MTN8.

The striker has scored some important goals for his this season, including a brace in the team’s 2-0 victory over Richards Bay FC in their second last league game of the campaign.
