Orlando Pirates on the hunt for new goalkeeper

Pirates have been linked with SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Orlando Pirates are said to be searching for a new goalkeeper with veteran shot-stopper Wayne Sandilands set to retire at the end of the season.

According to an insider, Sandilands was supposed to retire prior to the start of the season, with goalkeeper coaching to be his next role at the club, but, due to the teams failure to find a suitable goalkeeper, he was asked to go for another season at the club as one of the back-ups.

The Buccaneers have Richard Ofori, who is making his way back following a lengthy injury, Siyabonga Mpontshane, and young keeper Kopano Thuntsane.

“His contract will definitely not be renewed this time. There is already a search to bring on board a goalkeeper at the club. I mean, he is 38-years-old. He has been wanting to retire for some time now, it’s just that there were lots of things happening at the club with goalkeepers getting injured and not being able to find a suitable replacement,” said the source.

Pirates have been linked with SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, but with the Bafana Bafana captain still having a running contract with Matsatsantsa that will end in June 2023, Bucs will have to dig deep into the pockets in order to land the 30-year-old shot-stopper.
