Pitso feeling the pressure at Sundowns

There has not been this amount of pressure on Pitso Mosimane at Mamelodi Sundowns since he won his first Absa Premiership title for the club back in 2013.

The club is celebrating its 50th anniversary next year and supporters expect Jingles to gift them with a record-stretching 10th Premier Soccer League title – their third on the trot, matching the feat achieved in 1997 to 2000.

Mosimane said: “It is a difficult thing because there is pressure from the club for the 50th celebration, there is expectation to claim the La Decima (the 10th).

“But if we don’t want the pressure and the expectations, then we should not be here.

“It is the pressure of the success that you have. You have the pressure to win a 10th title, it is better than to win the fourth one.

“It is pressure that goes with success and I like that pressure, it is good,” said Mosimane.

“Maybe if we don’t do it this season, we can do it next season, or in three years. We will still be ahead of everybody,” he added.

Tonight they face a tricky Chippa United side at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Mosimane prides himself on his team’s eye-catching football and insists that to win the league multiple times, you need to play good football.

“I like it when someone is sitting on the couch and watching the game and says, ‘wow, this is proper football’.

“Sometimes you can win without playing proper football, but you can never, ever win consistently when you play that way.

“I have more chances to win because we play the proper way.”
