Pitso: We will cancel each other

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his league rivals are still going to drop points as the league title chase intensifies.

The defending champions squandered an opportunity to ascend to the summit of the log on Wednesday when they drew at home to Chippa United. They, however, have a second shot on Friday when they take on fellow league contenders Cape Town City at the Athlone Stadium.

“We are going to cancel each other here and there, just take what we have to take. That is why I said we don’t have to beat Bidvest Wits and City to win the league. Even if this one wins, this other one drops points,” he said.

Mosimane continued: “Even the opposition that we are fighting to win the league, they will have glitches here and there … it is part of it. We are going to cancel each other. Like Chippa did with us, we dropped points. The Soweto derby is always a draw, so people are dropping points there. Wits and Chippa next week in esgodini [Sisa Dukashe Stadium] … it is not easy there. Wits and SuperSport United [April 26]. Wits versus City [April 19]? Can you really say you are going to win?

“The former Bafana Bafana mentor praised his opposition for being a formidable side considering they are only just eight months old.

“They are a different team, they got a coach who wanted to put a mark on his career who also feels that maybe at Orlando Pirates he was not trusted or given that opportunity. And he really shows that he has got his chance now, and he is taking it and doing exceptionally well.

“I think they’ve got a good attack, and that’s what makes them win, your Lehlohonolo Majoro, Aubrey Ngoma and Lebogang Manyama. But we know how football is, what about injuries when they come to those three? What is going to happen? You have to have ammunition and be able to sustain it.”
