Truter acknowledges ‘the Creator’ after win against Maritzburg

The victory against Maritzburg took Babina Noko to sixth place on the league table.

Despite their win against Maritzburg United last weekend, Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter is still not happy with his side’s failure to utilise goal-scoring chances at home.

This is after Babina Noko edged the Team of Choice 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of a late strike by Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Truter believes his charges manage to play well and create a number of goal scoring opportunities, only for those chances to go to waste.

“That has been our Achilles heel at home (not scoring goals), chances created, possessional dominance. If you look at the game we lost against Cape Town City, we dominated that game. I just want to say thank you for the three points, thank you God, it was Easter weekend, I have to acknowledge the Creator,” said Truter.

“There were some nervous moments for us, not that it cost us, but in terms of the chances created without scoring. Getting a draw would have been criminal for us, it would have put us under pressure in the relegation dogfight at the bottom.”

The former AmaZulu FC and Swallows FC coach went on to congratulate his players for the performance against the Team of Choice, adding that substitutes Tshegofatso Mabasa and Sibusiso Vilakazi made an impact in the match.

“Well done to the boys for the shift. When the goal came we had Letsoalo, Mabasa and Vilakazi on the park, I think they were just one minute on the park and we scored, so that’s a dangerous front three. But our tactical flexibility doesn’t allow for all the three to play together. But somewhere somehow we will work it out,” he added.

“It was a different structure last week against Golden Arrows, and a different structure against Maritzburg. The guys are flexible and adaptable to any plan or any structure at the moment, so I am happy and ecstatic for the three points.”

The victory against Maritzburg took Babina Noko to sixth place on the league table having collected 32 points after 25 games in the DStv Premiership.
