Ingredients

  • 200g frozen chips
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 50g cheese, extra for melting on top
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 Russians
  • 1 tin chakalaka
  • Chopped herbs for garnish

Method

  1. Fry/ airfry or oven bake the chips.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan.
  3. Stir in the flour and heat through for a minute.
  4. Take off the heat, add your milk, and whisk to form a smooth sauce.
  5. Place back on the heat and whisk until the sauce coats the back of a spoon without displacing.
  6. Whisk in the cheese until melted into the sauce.
  7. Fry the onion until golden.
  8. Fry the Russians, chopping them into pieces once cooked.
  9. To serve, place chips on a plate, top with onions and Russian pieces.
  10. Then add cheese sauce and top with chakalaka.
  11. Sprinkle some cheese on top and grill until the cheese has melted and is bubbling.
  12. Garnish with chopped herbs.
