Dusty cycling greats are crowned at Halls

Many local riders and riders from rest of the province recently took part in the final race of the Dust Buster mountain bike series.

The final round of the Dust Buster Cross Country Marathon (XCM) Mountain Bike Series took place at the Halls Estate on September 3.

Some of the best cyclists put their endurance, strength and speed to the test in this deciding race for the series’ title.

Like the name suggests, the cyclists quite literally told their competitors to ‘eat their dust’ as they made their way through the orchards, past the stables at the Mataffin Equestrian Centre and across the finish line.

“The Dust Buster was a big success!” the organisers, 2D Adventures’ Danie Botha said afterwards. “Many local riders did the series with an increase of riders from Mpumalanga for the final.”

The cyclists’ best times out of their previous two races and their final race time on Sunday were combined to determine who the overall winners of their age groups and distances are:

16km
• Nipper: Tshegofatso Maile and Christiaan Prinsloo
• Sprog: Lana de Vries and Morné van Niekerk
• Open fun ride: Jemma Barnard and Phumlani Ncoko.
