Shoulder injury ends De Beer’s EFC title hopes

An unexpected shoulder injury prematurely ended the EFC bantamweight title hopes of Potchefstroom’s EFC title contender, Roevan de Beer, at EFC 101 on Thursday, 2 March.

De Beer, representing Coalition Grappling Academy, took on Nicholas Hwende in a title fight with the two going at it at full tilt. Both competitors had cuts and were bleeding, before tragedy struck for De Beer 2 minutes and 30 seconds into round 1.

“I think the fight was on its way to being a classic where I would have pulled it through at the end. Unfortunately, I dislocated my shoulder. Before that I felt really good.  I don’t feel sorry for what happened because there are much worse things that can happen in life. You must be able to take the success from the Lord as well as the disappointment in life,” stated De Beer.
