Highlands and Maritzburg join race for ex-Chiefs star’s signature

Swallows FC will have to be very convincing in their quest to land former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Phakaaathi has heard that the Dube Birds have strong competition from Highlands Park and Maritzburg United who have also tried to lure him to their teams.

“He has not made any decision yet as he is not in a hurry. He isn’t even sure if he still wants to play. Highlands made an interesting offer but he hasn’t decided on it. Maritzburg are also waiting on him after they made an offer.

“With Swallows it is a bit of an emotional issue because they are the first club who gave him a professional contract so going there would mean his career has come full cycle,” said a source.

Meanwhile, as reported earlier, a section of Chiefs supporters, claim to have forgiven their club’s former player, George Lebese for being a “traitor” after he abandoned Amakhosi and signed for Mamelodi Sundowns and have started a petition to try and force the side’s management to give the player another chance at Naturena.

Lebese came clean last week during an interview with Robert Marawa and admitted that his decision to leave Chiefs where he was a regular and one of the fan favourites may have been misguided.
