Lorch was offered to Chiefs before he joined Sundowns

'I know for a fact that he was also offered to Chiefs last year and again this year before Sundowns signed him,' a source told the Mgosi Squad

As Orlando Pirates fans still grapple with the departure of star player Thembinkosi Lorch, Phakaaathi has been reliably informed that the midfielder was also offered to arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs before he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns.

So broken was the relationship between Lorch and the Buccaneers management that the club was willing to move him on to their Soweto enemies.

It’s no secret that the 30-year-old was no longer happy at Pirates and stalled on extending his contract. He stance didn’t go down well with the powers that be at the Sea Robbers.

A source close to the operations at Pirates wasn’t surprised with the fact that the former PSL Footballer of the Season has found a new home after months of speculation about his future.

‘No longer happy’

“Look, people are still talking about the transfer now but they could see that Lorch was no longer happy,” the source told the Mgosi squad.

“He should have gone last year already and the move didn’t materialise. I know for a fact that he was also offered to Chiefs last year and again this year before Sundowns signed him.

“He was also willing to go to Chiefs provided that they offer him a better package but it looks like they were not really interested in signing him. It was discussed internally but in the end, no offer was made”

Phakaaathi has also gathered that much of Lorch’s unhappiness came from the fact that he felt he deserved more than what he was earning at Pirates.
