Shandu rues missed chances in Pirates loss to Spurs

Pirates suffered a 2-1 loss to Cape Town Spurs in a DStv Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium last Wednesday.

Orlando Pirates defender Bandile Shandu says it’s very difficult to accept the club’s defeat to Cape Town Spurs after creating plenty of goal-scoring chances to win the match.

Pirates suffered a 2-1 loss to Spurs in a DStv Premiership clash – a first win of the season for the Urban Warriors – at the Cape Town Stadium last Wednesday.

Shandu reckons the team‘s performance was not bad despite their failure to utilise their goal-scoring chances.

“It’s a difficult result (to take) especially looking at the way we played, the chances we created, it’s very tough to take the this loss. But we need to focus on the next game and pull together (as a team),” said Shandu after the match.

“It was not as bad as it seemed. We created a lot of chances, that was a good sign. We just need to convert those chances. But the way we played (was good), even after half-time we managed to create a lot chances.”

The loss extended Pirates’ winless run in the league to four games. In the process, Bucs suffered two losses (against Mamelodi Sundowns and Spurs) and drew two (against AmaZulu FC and Polokwane City).

They now trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 15 points, having played the same number of games of games as the defending champions.

Pirates will now change their focus to the Carling Black Label Knockout where they take on Richards Bay FC in a semi-final clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

After the cup clash against Sundowns, Pirates will play Sekhukhune United at home on Tuesday in Orlando before they meet rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby next week Saturday.
