Pirates players not going to do Chiefs any favours

The tie between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday at the Orlando Stadium will certainly benefit Kaizer Chiefs should the Buccaneers register maximum points against the Pretoria side.

A win for Pirates will see Downs trailing Amakhosi by nine points in the league as the race for the Championship continues to intensify. Downs are in second place on the log with 32 points, while Chiefs are sitting on top of the table with 41.

The Buccaneers, meanwhile, have accumulated 24 points to occupy position six, and Memela says their objective as a team going into this tie is to improve.

“It’s not about Kaizer Chiefs or doing any favours for Kaizer Chiefs. What is important is to focus on ourselves because we are big and we all know. We just have to focus on ourselves and not worry about other people because what is important for us is to make sure every game we try and perform,” said the winger.

“As you heard the coach, our performance in the second half was not good and we spoke about it. We are trying to improve from that and that is our focus.”

Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands shared Memela’s sentiments and says they have objectives of their own going into this game.

“I think our focus as Meme said we are solely focused upon ourselves. We can’t be watching too far ahead and what the implications are for other teams. We have our own objectives, own goals, we have our standards we are trying to meet,” said Sandilands.

“So, the focus is just on us and the discussion among ourselves is trying to get a more complete performance from the team. We know what we want to improve on, we know the objectives we want to achieve out of the game on Wednesday. So, our focus will be 100 percent on ourselves and what we can achieve from that game.”
