With sister Chery-owned brand Jaecoo soon to bring its first electric vehicle to South Africa, Lepas has released the first teaser image confirming the L6 EV for the local market.
A brand first
Officially revealed at Chery’s annual International User Summit in Wuhu in April, the L6 EV is expected to fill between the combustion engine model and the incoming three-row L8.
While the confirmation teaser, posted on Lepas South Africa’s Instagram page, doesn’t reveal any other details, some digging did produce the following.
Dimensions
Seemingly set to use the same LEX platform as the petrol-powered L6, L4 and L8, the L6 EV, according to paultan.org, has the following dimensions:
- Length: 4 570 mm;
- Wheelbase: 2 700 mm;
- Height: 1 683 mm;
- Width: 1 852 mm
At the same time, the publication reports a boot capacity of 435-litres, which expands to 1 255-litres with the rear seats folded down. An additional 38-litres can be stored underneath the bonnet.
Spec
Appearing near identical to the newly priced petrol L6 inside, mentioned specification items include:
- 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels;
- LED headlights;
- keyless entry;
- imitation leather upholstery;
- dual-zone climate control;
- electric, heated and ventilated front seats;

- 8.8-inch instrument cluster;

Battery tech
Up front, motivation comes from a 65-kWh, and not the previously reported 67-kWh, battery pack powering a single electric motor mounted on the front axle.
The result is 160kW/275Nm, which translates to a range of 450 km and DC charging support up to 120 kW.
Accordingly, a charging time of 20 minutes will be required from 30-80% when using the latter charging method.
