NPA drops charges against Khumalo and other Crime Intelligence officials [VIDEOS]

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has withdrawn all fraud and corruption charges against seven senior Crime Intelligence officials, including the divisional head, General Dumisani Khumalo, and his co-accused, without conditions.
Khumalo appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the court handed down the decision.
The charges stemmed from the appointment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele as head of the Technical Support Services Unit at Crime Intelligence.
The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) alleged that Mokwele lacked the required qualifications for the post and accused Khumalo and other senior officers of manipulating the recruitment process in an attempt to capture Crime Intelligence.

SA, Zimbabwe agree on framework to transfer prisoners between countries

South Africa and Zimbabwe have moved to strengthen cooperation in correctional services.
Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, held a meeting on Wednesday. The engagement took place ahead of the South Africa-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday.
The agreement is expected to deepen cooperation in justice and correctional services while contributing to regional integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), said the Department of Correctional Services on Thursday night.
“The agreement will also establish a framework for cooperation on the interstate transfer of offenders between South Africa and Zimbabwe. This is a matter of mutual importance given the number of citizens from both countries serving sentences across their respective borders,” said the department.

Gauteng reservoir levels drop

The Gauteng Provincial Government has raised concerns about a steady increase in water consumption across the province, warning that reservoir and tower storage levels were falling even as pumping systems operated at or near full capacity.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said the trend was putting growing strain on the province’s water supply network.
According to Mhlanga, the province’s three metropolitan municipalities together used around 70% of the water supplied by bulk provider Rand Water, and rising demand was affecting the system’s ability to keep up.

Springbok captain Pieter-Steph du Toit: Facing All Blacks at Ellis Park is the ‘biggest dream’

An incredible career spanning two Rugby World Cup trophies and two World Rugby Player of the Year awards has barely diminished the excitement and nervousness Pieter-Steph du Toit feels ahead of Saturday’s Test match.
Du Toit will captain the Springboks in Siya Kolisi’s absence in the first of four Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test matches at Ellis Park (kick-off 5.10pm).
It will be the 34-year-old’s 99th game for the national side, but he admitted on Friday that he still feels butterflies ahead of matches, especially against South Africa’s historic rivals, the All Blacks.
“As a young boy, your biggest dream is to stand there, especially at Ellis Park, facing New Zealand and the haka,” Du Toit said.
