A man was shot dead near Railway’s Café in Irene, Centurion, on Friday night.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Asnath Malatsi said the man was approached outside the cafe by two men, then shot him, Centurion Rekord reported.

“It seems they wanted to mug him,” she said.

She said the man died on the scene.

According to TJ Bryant of Railway’s Café, the shooting happened on the other side of the shopping centre.

Bryant said they became aware of the shooting when a lady came into the shop to ask for help.

“A lady came running to our shop asking for help. We then proceeded to the other side to assist,” he said.

Malatsi said no arrests had been made and a case of murder was being investigated.

In a separate incident, a man was shot in his buttocks by four men after he went outside to investigate the cause of his dogs’ incessant barking on Thursday in Monument Park, Pretoria.

Hi-Risk security firm spokesperson Arthur Crewe said they responded to a call of a shooting at 2am.

“We found the man on the ground bleeding. He had been shot in one of his butt cheeks,” added Crewe.

He said four men were hiding in the garden when the homeowner investigated.

He had heard strange noises and his dogs’ incessant barking.

The victim was accosted by four men and as he made an attempt to run back into the house, they shot him in the buttocks.

Crewe said the wound was not life-threatening, and the man was in a stable condition.
