Tinkler facing injuries and concerned about lack of goals

Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler is facing some injury crisis ahead of the team’s first league match of the year against Platinum Stars at the Orlando Stadium tomorrow.

“We have Menzi Masuku and Happy Jele who are doubtful for the match. But, we still have to asses them later today to see if they will be fit in time to play. And of course Oupa Manyisa, he is still going to be out of action for a while,” said Tinkler.

“It is an important match for us and looking at Platinum Stars, they come to this match having had a decent into the season. But judging from their last three matches, a draw and two losses they will be looking to get maximum points.”

The Pirates mentor also added that his players have been working at training, especially on the finishing aspect of the game, which he thinks his players have failed to do in their recent games.

“If you look at our game against Sundowns (Mamelodi), we could have got back of the net in the first two minutes of the game. And right now we could be talking about a whole different story.”

Pirates were handed a 2-0 defeat by Pitso Mosimane’s side in their last league game of 2015, but he is now eyeing to start the new year with goals.

“We don’t really need to rely on strikers to get goals for us in this modern day of football. We have been working really hard at training with the whole squad in terms of finishing.”
