Freese was sacked as Platinum Stars coach on Tuesday morning. Freese was on special leave earlier this month to allow an internal performance targets review process to take place.

Stars has looked a shadow of the team that won the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout Cup title last season. Dikwena cashed in on their key players from the double cup winning squad and failed to adequately replace them their after, signing bench warmer and rejects from Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Former SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson was unveiled as Freese’s replacement at the helm. Johnson returns for his second spell at the club. He led Dikwena to their highest finish in the 2012/13 season before accepting a job at Supersport United.  “@PlatinumStarsFC announces Cavin Johnson as the main man. Welcome back Kwena,” read a statement on the official Stars Twitter account.

Johnson will be on the bench when Platinum Stars face Ajax Cape Town on the 4th of April at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
