FC Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz was determined to keep a clean sheet when his side faced Cologne over the weekend and employed an unusual technique to stop a striker from converting a penalty kick against him.

Cologne got a penalty after one of their players went down in the box while he was challenging for the ball with two Augsburg defenders. Protesting Augsburg players stood in the penalty box questioning the referee’s decision as they felt the Cologne’s player went down too easily, while the protest was going on Hitz craftily dug a hole next to the penalty spot.

Anthony Modeste stepped up to take the penalty and placed his leading foot in the hole. Modeste fell as he made contact with the ball allowing Hitz to parry the shot.

Raul Bobadilla scored the decisive goal for Augsburg in the 61st minute, leaving Modeste to rue the missed penalty.
