The launch of the sixth edition of the Carling Black Label Cup took place at Park Station in Johannesburg on Tuesday, with the preseason competition set to be played at the FNB Stadium on July 30.

Among the attendees at the launch was Kaizer Chiefs Coach Steve Komphela, skipper Sphiwe Tshabalala, Camaldine Abraw and George Maluleka along with club manager Bobby Motaung.

Pirates were also represented by their coach Eric Tinkler, captain Oupa Manyisa and Tendai Ndoro.

The Buccaneers have claimed the competition four times, whereas Amakhosi have only won it once.

This will be the second time Komphela and Tinkler playing the competition as head coaches of the Soweto giants. However, as it is with the competition rules, the two coaches won’t be fully in charge of their teams with one lucky fan from each team taking the head coach role on the day.

Manyisa who has been out due to an ankle since last year is hoping the fans will make the game more entertaining again and Pirates win the trophy for the fifth time.

“It is a great competition because it is for the fans. It is their day and as players we will be listening to their instructions,” said Manyisa.
