Anele Mdoda was in no mood to play nice this week after she saw her name/show dragged into the Daily Maverick’s latest political exposé.

The online publication ran an explosive story, after discovering that the Department of of Social Development paid R500 000 to have Anele Mdoda interview Bathabile Dlamini (the Minister of Social Development) on Real Talk with Anele.

The money was paid to the SABC who successfully orchestrated the rest of the proceedings which culminated in Bathabile being interviewed by Anele during the ANC’s heated elective conference.

Daily Maverick claims that the episode on which Bathabile appeared was meant to be used as a PR tool for political gain and an attempt to clear the Minister’s name.

“The programme is an unmitigated attempt at humanising and white-washing Dlamini, allegedly using the public broadcaster and public funds.”

They also claim that Anele made no attempt to interrogate the minister on her involvement in 2017’s Sassa debacle.

“Not once in the interview does Mdoda attempt to excavate why the minister, her department and Sassa were dragged to the Constitutional Court by lobby group the Black Sash, when it became apparent that Sassa would not be able to act as paymaster for social grants when an illegal CPS contract came to an end in March 2017.”

Anele Mdoda was not impressed to see her name (and show) dragged into disrepute because of this headline and she aired her thoughts on social media.
