In 2014, Maphosa Modiba was trying to work his way up to play professional football, and now three years later, the Limpopo-born player has earned his first call up to the senior national team that will take on Mauritania and Egypt in the Afcon qualifiers and the Nelson Mandela challenge respectively.

“To represent the nation is every footballer’s dream, and I am so grateful to be selected for this important match. The call up is a result of hard work and dedication and how all this started through the Ke Yona Team Search,” said an elated Modiba.

Fresh from representing the national Under-23 team at the Rio Olympics, Modiba, who realised his dream of turning into a professional player through the Nedbank Ke Yona team, was part of the dissolved Mpumalanga Black Aces team that finished last season on position four, and he was voted the young player of the season in the league.
