Ahead of Saturday's MTN8 final between SuperSport United and Cape Town City, one wonders how United coach Eric Tinkler and City coach Benni McCarthy will react to each other looking at their history.

Eric Tinkler (L) of SuperSport United and Benni Mccarthy of Cape Town City.

Tinkler and McCarthy have exchanged verbal blows in the past, dating back to the 2011 Telkom Knockout final when Tinkler was an assistant at Bidvest Wits to Roger de Sa and McCarthy was an Orlando Pirates player.

The pair got into another tiff when Tinkler was coach of Pirates and McCarthy was his player. However, Tinkler says the incidents are well in the past and the weekend match is not about him or McCarthy.

“We talking years back now. But it [the MTN8 fina] is not about me or Benni, this is about SuperSport United and Cape Town City. So, I am not going to answer questions on that,” commented McCarthy.
